This inspirational print of six Maui sand grains though the microscope is a stunning example of the beauty and diversity that exists in the world around us. The image is magnified about 125 times. The sand grains include the eroded tip of a spiral shell, a tiny piece of coral, a pink shell fragment, a foram (shell of a protist), and micro shell, and a miniscule volcanic melt. This super quality giclee print is framed and signed by the artist.

This grain of Moon sand was returned to Earth 40 years ago by the Apollo 11 Mission astronauts. It was formed when a micrometeorite hit the Moon at a speed of about 20,000 miles per hour, burning a hole through the center, and vaporizing the surrounding grains, capturing them in a glassy matrix. Since there is no atmosphere to protect the Moon, its surface has been bombarded by micrometeorites for 4 billion years.
